A Community Portrait of Durham (Community POD) is an effort to build community by discussing what makes this community what it is--What is Durham? Who is Durham?--and transforming that dialogue into a piece of visual art.
Using a collaborative model, the artwork will be created, celebrated, documented, and deconstructed in a public setting and will incorporate creative reuse. A professional image of the final piece will be ready for the Durham Arts Council's portrait show in October.
This collaborative venture is also a fundraiser towards the purchase of a permanent home for The Scrap Exchange, which is looking to grow, share space, expand programming and stay in the Durham's Central Park corridor.
